Health & Wellness

Did you know?

Regular visits to your eye care professional can do more than help you care for your eyes. They may also help catch signs of chronic medical conditions.2

Why is preventive vision care important?

Eye exams are more than the first step to correcting vision problems or treating eye diseases.3 They can also help detect and monitor serious health problems like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, certain cancers and other conditions.4 Even if you have perfect vision, yearly exams get you some information.

Diabetic Eyecare (included with your TRS-Care Vision plan)

If you have been diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes and have specific ophthalmological conditions, the vision plan provides additional coverage for you once every 12 months. It also provides benefits for those with glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). In addition, members who have diabetes but don't show signs of diabetic eye disease are eligible to receive preventive retinal screenings. Benefits are not available at retail chains, including Costco®, Walmart® and Sam’s Club®.

1 Your actual savings from enrolling in a vision plan will depend on various factors, including the plan chosen, plan premiums, number of visits to an eye care professional by your family per year, and the cost of services and materials received. Be sure to review the Schedule of Benefits for your plan's specific benefits and other important details.
