Offering unlimited access to create and execute key estate planning documents online by answering a few simple questions, or unlimited face-to-face access with a MetLife Legal Plans’ attorney to prepare or update a will, living will, Power of Attorney and other estate documents. Will preparation services are also available via willscenter.com for everyone enrolled in Basic Life.3   Having a will is important as it helps to ensure your final wishes are clear.

If you are enrolled in Supplemental Life, you and your beneficiaries will have access to more than 18,500 attorneys in-network, at no additional cost.  Whether you have a question about the probate process or court representation needed, unlimited consultations with a plan attorney can leave you feeling confident with your decisions.  If you prefer, you may also use an out-of-network attorney.  While the cost for these services will need to be paid up-front, you can submit a case for reimbursement based on a set fee schedule.

The following services are included at no cost where enrolled in Supplemental Life:

  • Unlimited one-on-one consultations to talk with to an attorney about authenticating an estate.
  • Preparation and court representation means you receive prepared estate documents and in-court professional representation to help execute the transfer of probate assets from the estate.
  • Help with correspondence and tax filing needed to transfer non-probate assets.

As soon as your Supplemental Life insurance begins, you’ll automatically have each of these services at your fingertips. 

Simply contact a MetLife Legal Plans Client Services Representative to get started.  We’ll give you an eligibility ID and help you find a participating attorney:

Alleviating the burden of making funeral arrangements from their loved ones. Employees get exclusive access to the largest network of funeral homes and cemeteries to pre-plan with a counselor and receive discounts on funeral services.

The provided Funeral Planning Guide can help support your loved ones at a time when they need it most.  By documenting your funeral preferences, as well as other key information for your survivors, you can provide support posthumously – a final act of love. This Funeral Planning Guide provides an easy-to-use format for documenting information your loved ones will need after your death:

  • My Personal Information – record details your family will need for official records
  • My Funeral Plans – detail your wishes regarding your funeral.  Should you not wish to plan your own funeral, your loved ones can use this information to do it for you.
  • My Important Contacts and Information – record key information your loved ones may need following your death, such as insurance and financial information.

Offering continual coverage at group rates. Employees can take their life insurance benefits with them without a gap in coverage.

To continue your life coverage benefits, you will receive a notice after your group life benefits end which includes coverage amounts and eligibility dates.  You will have 31 days from the date your coverage ends to port coverage.

Easing workplace transitions. Employees get help with time-sensitive benefit and financial decisions to help them make the right choices during changes in employment.

Giving financial security while traveling.Employees can access medical, travel, and concierge services—24 hours a day, 365 days a year, while traveling domestically or internationally. 

To complement your MetLife Life insurance coverage, you have access to Travel Assistance services, a useful program giving you and covered family members access to travel assistance professionals at AXA Assistance USA, Inc. when traveling within the U.S. or abroad.  They have the expertise to help when you need emergency, medical, travel and personal assistance.

Covers participating employees and their dependents.

Grief Support: Access to qualified consultants for information, support, crisis intervention, as it relates to a loss (e.g. death, job termination, pet, life threatening illness) 5 sessions, in person or telephonic.

Financial Consultation: Access to qualified consultants for information, assessment, action planning and resources, as it pertains to a loss; Access to network of certified financial professionals, as it pertains to a loss.

Legal Consultation: Access to qualified staff attorneys for a 30 minute free consultation providing information and resources to help participants make informed decisions on legal matters, providing education and coaching to empower participants as they work towards resolving their legal issues. If the matter requires formal legal advice, the participant can use thier own attorney or one of TELUS Health’ network attorneys. Primary scope of focus is legal needs as it pertains to a loss. Staff attorneys cannot provide legal representation or advice.

Critical Incident Stress Management (“CISM”): Access for employers to onsite emergency counseling for critical workplace incidents or disasters (such as unexpected employee death, violence or accidents) at no cost to the customer. A CISM is defined as up to four (4) staff hours with one (1) counselor per incident occurring at a single
work location. If a session exceeds four (4) hours, multiple counselors or locations are required, additional fees are incurred by the customer and will be billed separately.

Reducing the pressure of immediate financial decisions. Beneficiaries can take their time to make the right decision with the flexible settlement option that gives them full access to policy funds while earning a guaranteed minimum interest rate through Total Control Account.

Helping employees retire with confidence.  Employees can attend workshops that offer comprehensive retirement and financial education to help them plan for the future through Retirewise.

Not approved for grouppolicies situsedin AK, FL, KY, MT, ND, NY and WA.  If the group policy is issued in an approvedstate, the discount is available for services offered in any state except KYand NY, or where there is no Dignity Memorial presence (AK,MT, ND, SD, and WY).For MI and TN, the discount is available for “At Need” services only.
  5. MetLifeadministers the Retirewiseand Transition Solutions programs, and has speciallytrained third party financial professionals to offer financial education. Thefinancial professionals  providingfinancial education are not affiliated with MetLife but are providing theprogram under a service provider contract.
  6. To take advantageof this benefit for Group Term Life insurance, coverage of at least $10,000 mustbe elected. GVUL and GUL coverage is portable to the maturity age specified inthe certificate. If your employer replaces MetLife GVUL or GUL with anothergroup life insurance plan or otherwise terminates theMetLife group contract,your GVUL or GUL coverage may also be terminated, even after retirement orseparation from employment. Rates may increase as a result of such termination.
  7. Travel Assistanceservices are offered and administered by AXA Assistance USA, Inc. Certainbenefits provided under the Travel Assistance program are underwritten byCertain Underwriters at Lloyd’s London (not incorporated) through Lloyd’sIllinois, Inc. Neither AXA Assistance USA Inc. nor the Lloyd’s entitiesareaffiliated with MetLife, and the services and benefits they provide areseparate and apart from the insurance provided by MetLife.
  8. Grief Counselingand Funeral Planning services are provided through an agreement with LifeWorks.LifeWorks is not an affiliate of MetLife, and the services LifeWorks providesare separate and apart from the insurance provided by MetLife. LifeWorks has anationwide network of over 30,000 counselors. Counselors have master’s ordoctoral degrees and are licensed professionals. The Grief Counseling programdoes not provide support for issues such as: domestic issues, parenting issues,or marital/relationshipissues (other than a finalized divorce). For suchissues, members should inquire with their human resources department aboutavailable company resources. This program is available to insureds, theirdependents and beneficiaries who have received a serious medical diagnosis orsuffered a loss. Events that may result in a loss are not covered under thisprogram unless and until such loss has occurred. Services are not available inall jurisdictions and are subject to regulatory approval. Not available on allpolicy forms.
  9. Subject to statelaw, and/or group policyholder direction, the Total Control Account is providedfor all Life and AD&D benefits of $5,000 or more. The TCA is not insured bythe Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation or any government agency. The assetsbacking TCA are maintained in MetLife’s general account and are subject toMetLife’s creditors. MetLife bears the investment risk of the assets backingthe TCAs, and expects to receive a profit. Regardless of the investmentexperience of such assets, the interest credited to Total Control Accounts willnever fall below the guaranteed minimum rate. Guarantees are subject to thefinancial strength and claims paying ability of MetLife.
