If you are enrolled in Supplemental Life, you and your beneficiaries will have access to more than 18,500 attorneys in-network, at no additional cost.  Whether you have a question about the probate process or court representation needed, unlimited consultations with a plan attorney can leave you feeling confident with your decisions. If you prefer, you may also use an out-of-network attorney.  While the cost for these services will need to be paid up-front, you can submit a case for reimbursement based on a set fee schedule.

The following services are included at no cost where enrolled in Supplemental Life:

  • Unlimited one-on-one consultations to talk with to an attorney about authenticating an estate.
  • Preparation and court representation means you receive prepared estate documents and in-court professional representation to help execute the transfer of probate assets from the estate.
  • Help with correspondence and tax filing needed to transfer non-probate assets.

As soon as your Supplemental Life insurance begins, you’ll automatically have each of these services at your fingertips. 

Simply contact a MetLife Legal Plans Client Services Representative to get started.  We’ll give you an eligibility ID and help you find a participating attorney:

Grief Support: Access to qualified consultants for information, support, crisis intervention, as it relates to a loss (e.g. death, job termination, pet, life threatening illness) 5 sessions, in person or telephonic.

Financial Consultation: Access to qualified consultants for information, assessment, action planning and resources, as it pertains to a loss; Access to network of certified financial professionals, as it pertains to a loss.

Legal Consultation: Access to qualified staff attorneys for a 30-minute free consultation providing information and resources to help participants make informed decisions on legal matters, providing education and coaching to empower participants as they work towards resolving their legal issues. If the matter requires formal legal advice, the participant can use their own attorney or one of TELUS Health’ network attorneys. Primary scope of focus is legal needs as it pertains to a loss. Staff attorneys cannot provide legal representation or advice.

Critical Incident Stress Management (“CISM”): Access for employers to onsite emergency counseling for critical workplace incidents or disasters (such as unexpected employee death, violence or accidents) at no cost to the customer. A CISM is defined as up to four (4) staff hours with one (1) counselor per incident occurring at a single work location. If a session exceeds four (4) hours, multiple counselors or locations are required, additional fees are incurred by the customer and will be billed separately.

The provided Funeral Planning Guide can help support your loved ones at a time when they need it most.  By documenting your funeral preferences, as well as other key information for your survivors, you can provide support posthumously – a final act of love. This Funeral Planning Guide provides an easy-to-use format for documenting information your loved ones will need after your death:

  • My Personal Information – record details your family will need for official records.
  • My Funeral Plans – detail your wishes regarding your funeral.  Should you not wish to plan your own funeral, your loved ones can use this information to do it for you.
  • My Important Contacts and Information – record key information your loved ones may need following your death, such as insurance and financial information.

Dignity Memorial Flyer

Reducing the pressure of immediate financial decisions. Beneficiaries can take their time to make the right decision with the flexible settlement option that gives them full access to policy funds while earning a guaranteed minimum interest rate through Total Control Account.

Conversion allows a covered person, whose Life coverage ends, the opportunity to buy an individual Life Insurance policy.

To convert your life coverage benefits, you will receive a notice after your group life benefits end which includes coverage amounts and eligibility dates.  You will have 31 days from the date your coverage ends to convert coverage.

1. Digital Estate Planning is not available for customers sitused in FL or located in GU, PR and VI. It is not included with dependent life coverages or certain GUL/GVUL policies. In certain states, group legal plans are provided through insurance coverage underwritten by  Metropolitan General Insurance Company, Warwick, RI.

2. Will Preparation is offered by MetLife Legal Plans, Inc., Cleveland, Ohio. In certain states, legal services benefits are provided through insurance coverage underwritten by Metropolitan General Insurance Company, Warwick, Rhode Island. For New York sitused or principally located cases, the Will Preparation service is an expanded offering that includes office consultations and telephone advice for certain other legal matters beyond Will Preparation. Tax Planning and preparation of Living Trusts are not covered by the Will Preparation Service.

3. Grief Counseling and Funeral Assistance services are provided through an agreement with TELUS Health. TELUS Health is not an affiliate of MetLife, and the services TELUS Health provides are separate and apart from the insurance provided by MetLife. TELUS Health has a nationwide network of over 30,000 counselors. Counselors have master’s or doctoral degrees and are licensed professionals. The Grief Counseling program does not provide support for issues such as: domestic issues, parenting issues, or marital/relationship issues (other than a finalized divorce). For such issues, members should inquire with their human resources department about available company resources. This program is available to insureds, their dependents and beneficiaries who have received a serious medical diagnosis or suffered a loss. Events that may result in a loss are not covered under this program unless and until such loss has occurred. Services are not available in all jurisdictions and are subject to regulatory approval. Not available on all policy forms.

4. Services and discounts are provided through a member of the Dignity Memorial® Network, a brand name used to identify a network of licensed funeral, cremation and cemetery providers that are affiliates of Service Corporation International (together with its affiliates, “SCI”), 1929 Allen Parkway, Houston, Texas. The online planning site is provided by SCI Shared Resources, LLC. SCI is not affiliated with MetLife, and the services provided by Dignity Memorial members are separate and apart from the insurance provided by MetLife. Not available in some states. Planning services, expert assistance, and bereavement travel services are available to anyone regardless of affiliation with MetLife. Discounts through Dignity Memorial’s network of funeral providers are pre-negotiated. Not available where prohibited by law. Not approved for group policies situsedin AK, FL, KY, MT, ND, NY and WA.  If the group policy is issued in an approved state, the discount is available for services offered in any state except KY and NY, or where there is no Dignity Memorial presence (AK,MT, ND, SD, and WY). For MI and TN, the discount is available for “At Need” services only.

5. Subject to state law, and/or group policyholder direction, the Total Control Account is provided for all Life and AD&D benefits of $5,000 or more. The assets backing the Total Control Account (TCA) are maintained in the general account of MetLife or the Issuing Insurance Company. These general accounts are subject to the creditors of MetLife or the respective Issuing Insurance Company. MetLife or the Issuing Insurance Company bears the investment experience of such assets and expects to earn income sufficient to pay interest to TCA Accountholders and to make a profit on the operation of the TCAs. Regardless of the investment experience of such assets, the effective annual rate on the Account will not be less than the rate guaranteed on the welcome guide. The TCA and other available settlement options are not bank products and are not insured by the FDIC or any other governmental agency. In addition, while the funds in your account are not insured by the FDIC, they are guaranteed by each state’s insurance guarantee association. The coverage limits vary by state.
